About Us

Founded in 2025, the South Sudan Golf Union (SSGU) is the official governing body for golf in South Sudan. Our mission is to foster the growth and development of golf, ensuring that it reaches new heights across the nation. We are committed to organizing tournaments, developing golf clubs, and supporting the training and development of golfers from all walks of life. We envision a future where South Sudan becomes a respected and competitive force in the global golfing community, contributing to both regional and international golf tournaments.
Our Objectives
- Promote Golfing Interest: Inspire and engage more people to take up golf by organizing events and developing golf clubs throughout South Sudan
- Host Golf Championships: Organize prestigious events such as the South Sudan Amateur Golf Championship, providing a platform for competitive play.
- Skill Development: Offer coaching, training, and development programs for golfers, especially youth, to help them achieve their fullest potential.
- Affiliation with International Bodies:: Align with global golfing standards by affiliating with the Royal & Ancient (R&A) and working closely with the National Council of Sports of South Sudan.
- Inclusivity: Make golf accessible to all, regardless of gender, age, or economic background, and provide opportunities for golfers from every community.
- National Representation: Select and train talented golfers to represent South Sudan in international competitions.
Our Key Functions
- Tournament Organization: The South Sudan Golf Union hosts national tournaments, including the South Sudan Open Amateur Golf Championship, which follow the international rules and regulations set by the R&A.
- Regional Representation: We have strong representation in the Upper Nile Region, Equatoria Region, and Bhar El Gazal Region, ensuring that golf is accessible in all corners of South Sudan.
- Development of Member Clubs: We help establish and nurture golf clubs, ensuring they meet the Union’s standards and promote inclusivity.
- Coaching and Training: We focus on developing the skills of both new and experienced golfers by providing professional coaching programs.
- Public Engagement: The Union works with local media and international platforms to increase awareness of golf, promote upcoming tournaments, and celebrate South Sudan’s golfing achievements
Regional Representation
The South Sudan Golf Union is organized into three key regions, each represented by a Regional Representative in the General Council. These regions help expand golfing opportunities, organize local tournaments, and support training initiatives. The regions are:
- Upper Nile Region
- Equatoria Region
- Bhar El Gazal Region
These regions are integral to the Union’s development efforts, promoting golf at the grassroots level and ensuring that golfers from all parts of the country can participate in Union events.
Membership
